    Best Time: November-March

    Mt. Abu
    The place shows an interesting contrast of British style bungalows, the holiday lodges of the royals along with the presence of the various tribal communities living in the surrounding hills and forests.

    Species: One can look for white-naped tit, green avadavat, Marshall’s iora and other scrubland birds

    One can arrive here by overnight train from Delhi or Ahmedabad or drive here from Udaipur. Cultural site is Dilwara Temple and the famous Nakki Lake.

    Kumbhalgarh
    The 586 sq. km. sanctuary supporting a rich variety of wildlife such as leopard, sloth bear, wild boar, four horned antelope, wolf etc.

    Species: One can expect green avadavat, crested bunting, jungle bush quail, thick billed flowerpecker etc.

    Kumbhalgarh Fort: This only impregnable fort in India that stretches across 36 km of the Aravali Mountains and is 1100m high from the sea level.

    Stay: Hotel Kumbhal Castle, Dera Kumbhal Rawat. Nights: 1-2 nights

    Kheechan
    Kheechan is situated 130 km from Jodhpur and 5 km from Phalodi. This is a natural sanctuary to demoiselle crane.

    Species: See large congregation of demoiselle cranes and other desert species.

    One can visit this traditional Rajasthani village to explore the culture.

    Jaisalmer (Desert National Park)
    A Golden sandstone desert mirage of Rajasthan. Desert National Park is an excellent example of the eco-system of the Thar desert and its diverse fauna. Sand dunes form around 20% of the park. The major landform consists of craggy rocks and compact salt lake bottoms intermediate areas and fixed dunes.

    Species: One can find Isabelline, variable and desert wheater, common kestrel, shikra, chestnut-bellied sandgrouse etc. Great Indian Bustard, Stoliczka’s bushchat, cream-colored courser, greater hoopoe lark, eagles such as lesser spotted, bonelli’s, short toed, Imperial etc. are found here, plain leaf warbler and trumpeter finch.

    One can visit the fort, Jain temples, havelis and sand dunes of Sam / Khuri for camel rides.

    Stay: Himmatgarh Palace, Desert Safari Camp and Mirwana Nature Resort. Nights: 3-4 nights.
